i was lucky enough to witness the first recorded take of Nick playing this song on his guitar right on our back porch. He literally wrote the entire song that day, and we both felt it, the newness of it, his intuition for how possible things are.
he said it to me that day - you can just wake up and there's no song, and by the end of the day, there's an entire song, it's not more complicated than that. i have written some songs pretty damn fast, but none that i can think of in a single fucking day. anyways, he is definitely taking it further than this recording, but I can't help myself from preserving this, like taking a photo of a newborn, who could resist that?
Not me.
lyrics
i dug your grave in a black hoodie and timbs
and we danced around it like when
we were little kids
and you said true love feels just like a
gurney-trip
but i can feel you creepin from the corner of my eyes
when i'm all by myself at home
i can see you in the bushes outside
in the darkness i know you're right behind me
thought you were gone
why won’t you die
the man in the mirror he's just laughing at me
and the telephone wire round my throat is definitely
neither here nor there but i keep promising better times
if you just gimme one more beeeeerrrrr
i swear i'll get us outta here
but i can feel you creepin from the corners of my eye
when i'm all by myself at home
i can feel you in the darkness behind
i can't sleep, i can't eat,
you just keep creepin' me
i thought you were gone
why won’t you die
